Local Jobs for Local People

We know that there are lots of people in our area who would like a new job – maybe a more skilled job than they currently have, or a promotion, or a career change. Other people might want to get back into work after having a family, or want a job with a permanent contract or more hours.

There have also been lots of changes to the law and the benefits system over the past few years, so some people might be looking for new employment which meets their specific needs.

This scheme aims to reduce unemployment and under-employment among residents of Rudheath and Witton through a programme of training and skills development. We will also be working directly with local employers to help them make sure our residents can apply for their job vacancies.

Whatever the reason we want to provide support for people looking for work and help get people ready for the new challenge. This might include specific training for a different career or promotion, taking part in traineeships, work experience or mentoring schemes, or just help in searching for work and making applications to companies.

Emma Smith is the Rudheath and Witton Employer Engagement Officer. Emma is based at the Work Zone (next door to the station) and has lots of experience in helping people get the employment they need and want, as well as liaising with local companies.

This project started in January 2017 when Emma will be out and about in the area, holding workshops and meeting local residents to start to identify what people think is needed.

Emma will also be working closely with employers in the area to find out what opportunities they may have coming up and help support local residents to access interviews for these posts, as well as running jobs fairs and clubs in the area.

If you think this might be of interest to you, or just want to hear a bit more about what’s available you can contact Emma on 01606 45724 (Tuesday- Thursday) or email emma.smith2@cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk.
